Prototyping for the theme started in and it was officially unveiled on the CES conference in January The first available build to include the visual style was Windows XP build , where it replaced the previously included Watercolor and Mallard placeholder themes. It was also present in all pre-reset Longhorn builds as well as early post-reset builds.
Some elements of the theme, such as the window frame and color scheme, have also been adopted in contemporary Windows CE versions. The first known build to include the final variant of Luna is build There are various slight differences between the preliminary and final version, most importantly the lack of color schemes other than blue in the preliminary variant, while the final version also includes the Silver and Olive Green color schemes.
The preliminary version is also slightly more glossy than the final one. The last available build to include the theme is build , which uses a different graphic for the Start menu right pane taken from the Slate theme for an unknown reason. Build is the last known build to include the theme, as it was demonstrated on the WinHEC conference with the Olive Green variant set.
This can easily be done by using VistaGlazz from Code Gazer. Download and Install VistaGlazz. Launch VistaGlazz and choose the first option, patch system files. Reboot your computer at the prompt. Right-click on the desktop and choose personalize. Select Windows Color and Apperance. Choose Luna -Blue and select apply. You now should have a similar desktop to the one in the second picture.
The first picture shows the desktop before applying the theme. Using a program called LogonStudio Vista, you can use any image as the background for the login screen. Download and Install LogonStudio Vista. Download and save the attached file called Windows XP. Open LogonStudio. Choose load and find the windows xp. Press the apply button. It will lock the computer to show you the new backround. The Windows XP cursor and the hour glass is easily brought back.
Right-click the desktop and choose Personalize. Click Mouse Pointers. Choose "None" from the menu. Click Apply. In Windows Xp's Windows Explorer, the folder name and icon was displayed in the title bar. Bring them back by using a program called Aero Bar. Download the attached file AeroBarIco. Save in Startup folder in Start Menu. Double Click it to run. Windows XP includes 22 preset color schemes for this visual style.
Four of them [12] are optimized for the visually impaired. A slightly darker variant of the Standard scheme, called 'Windows Classic', was default color scheme of Windows 98 albeit with a dark blue desktop background instead of green, much like the pre-release versions of Windows and appeared on Windows Vista but not Windows 7.
Windows Classic style is automatically used in Safe mode and on Win32 console windows. It also appears in Windows Server through R2. This Windows Classic theme was removed from Windows Server and Windows 8 for normal use but still exists in the kernel.
It presents a relucent, vivid and faux-reflective color scheme with intense blue and green colors. Royale was originally made available in December On April 7, , Microsoft New Zealand had made the Royale theme and the wallpapers for the New Zealand theme available for download for all editions of XP through Windows Genuine Advantage on its website but no longer exists in Because of the freeware nature of this package, it had also been available on software download websites, such as Softpedia at one time.
Microsoft did also release a Windows Media Playervisualization and skin at one time. Royale Noir looks like a darkened version of Royale, having a blackish and bluish to purple tint. Royale Noir has a black Start button, which changes to green when the mouse hovers over it. As Royale Noir was leaked and not finalized by Microsoft, it has been noted for some imperfections.
A few weeks after Royale Noir was leaked, Zune was officially released in a theme package to accompany the release of Microsoft's new Zune media player. In terms of style, Zune resembles Royale and Royale Noir, particularly the latter.
