For the purpose of their further enrichment, these plutocrats and the great corporations that serve them have controlled the economy by the purchase of political power.
The purchased governments do not act in the interest of the governed and their country; they act instead as agents for the corporations. A far better correction, however, would be a cumulative process by which states, regions, communities, households, or even individuals would begin to work toward economic self-determination and an appropriate measure of local independence.
Such a course of action would involve us in a renewal of thought about our history and our predicament. We must ask again whether or not we really want to be a free people.
We must consider again the linkages between land and landownership and land use and liberty. And we must ask, as we have not very seriously asked before, what are the best ways to sue and to care for our land, our neighbors, and our natural resources.
